We walked with Mary, our Blessed Mother, Queen of the Universe on our journey during this Jubilee Year, which opened with the Inaugural Jubilee Mass last November 9th. Bishop Foley led us through the Holy Door of Mercy and lit the Jubilee Candle, and we all prayed our Jubilee Prayer for the first time together. All parish family members participated in the special jubilee events and activities throughout the year. We announced our Golden Jubilee with a sign on our property and articles in the One Voice, along with banners in our gathering area. Events were advertised in the bulletin and on the OLQU website, and documented in the Queens Messenger and on the Jubilee Display in Joy Hall. In a special way, we:
+ Prayed the Jubilee Prayer (written by parishioners) at each weekend Mass.
+ Our Greeters wore Jubilee nametags to remind us, and our Welcomers explained the Jubilee meaning of each event.
+ Honored all past priests, deacons and lay staff; and prayed for all deceased members.
+ Displayed a history of our parish and video interviews with early members and with Bishop Foley.
+ Dedicated a Golden Jubilee memorial plaque, permanently fixed to our building.
+ Dedicated a Golden Jubilee Tree and our Queen’s Memorial Walkway.
+ Reflected on Mary, our Patroness, during Lent at soup suppers and on the Passion in a beautiful presentation by our Youth Group – our future.
+ Honored our beloved mothers and fathers – our legacy.
+ Honored Father Davis and diocesan priests – our shepherds – with a Mass, reception and gift on the feast day of their patron Saint John Vianney.
+ Celebrated the Queenship of Mary, our Mother and Patroness.
+ All parish families were presented with a beautiful Golden Jubilee rosary gift, lovingly hand-made by parishioner Andrea Wheeler.
+ Hosted “Companions on a Journey,” a Jubilee festival of musical prayer.
+ Sang the Rosary after Mass on the final day of the Golden Jubilee Rosary Novena.
+ Published “50 Years of Queen’s Cuisine” Jubilee cookbook.
+ Invited special guests and past parishioners to our parish picnic. Unveiled drawings of our new Golden Jubilee Memorial Building.
We are blessed by these events as we celebrate this jubilee year of spiritual renewal and prayer.
Our 50th Anniversary celebration is Thursday November 9th, with Mass at 6:30 PM followed by a reception. Bishop Baker and Bishop Emeritus Foley will attend. Virtually every ministry is involved in this celebration, as are our youth and children. Mark Blackburn composed and our Choir will sing the OLQU Golden Jubilee song. We celebrate our diverse cultures with food and dress representing the heritage of our parishioners. Bishop Baker will give special blessings to our founding members and early community members, members with their 50th wedding anniversary during the Jubilee year, and members with a birthday on November 9th. We will also display our special Golden Jubilee Blessing from Pope Francis, and a commemorative plaque to be installed on our new Golden Jubilee Memorial Building.
Beginning in 1967 with Father James Wathan, our founding members and early community members, and Mr. Bryant Bienvenu carving the altar and the ambo; through today with Father Davis Koottala and our upcoming new Golden Jubilee Memorial Building, let us renew our hearts in gratitude for the many blessings bestowed on us through our beloved spiritual home, Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, and unite our prayers for continued blessings for ourselves and for our parish brothers and sisters. We are truly fulfilling our jubilee goal of becoming “closer to Christ and each other through Mary.”
Please attend on November 9th. This is the culmination of our Golden Jubilee journey!
